Who would have thought? Good news!

Talk about a good day for Memphis music news. Upon opening my inbox today I found the following news bites just waiting for me like little digital presies.

  1. Record store day, April 20, 2013 – A special double LP soundtrack for the soon-to-be-classic Big Star documentary, Big StarNothing Can Hurt Me, will be available in very limited quantities. It will be on 180-gram translucent yellow vinyl [drool dripping on keyboard]. Too bad I live in Memphis where you will likely have to offer your first-born to get your hands on one of these.
  2. In performance at the White House – The White House announced a very special concert honoring Memphis Soul. The concert will feature Al Green, Queen Latifah,  Justin Timberlake, Alabama Shakes, William Bell, Steve Cropper, Ben Harper, Cyndi Lauper, Mavis Staples and Booker T. Jones   among others and will air on PBS stations.
  3. The Levitt Shell – The FREE summer concert lineup was announced and it always warms my heart knowing summer is almost here. Expect to see me at the Son Volt, Big Sam’s Funky Nation and Todd Snider shows and just about any other I have time to make it out to. Love the Shell!
